Graduate students in colleges of Madhya Pradesh will be gifted smartphones if they have at least 75 percent attendance, according to a state government scheme announced on Wednesday.
Wednesday, higher and technical education minister Umashankar Gupta directed his department to accelerate the process of distributing smart phones to students who took admission in first semester of graduation during academic sessions 2014-15 and 2015-16. These students, however, must have 75% attendance record to qualify for a smart phone gift from the government.
The minister called a meeting on distribution of smartphones with education department top-brass and instructed that the process to purchase smart phones for students taking admission in session 2016-17 should also have been completed now. The department calculated that 4.5 lakh smart phones will be purchased for students starting from class of 2014-15. Minister of state for higher education Deepak Joshi stressed on purchasing smart phones from a reputed company which has service stations across the state.
